Overview

Agenus is seeking a highly motivated individual with cell based analytical bioassay experience to work on innovative Cell Therapies for cancer treatment. This Senior Scientist position reports to the VP of Precision Medicine and Manufacturing.

 

The successful applicant will have primary responsibilities for the design, conduct and oversight of new potency assays for Agenus’ cell therapy products.

The person will also responsible for the development of assays to explore the optimal subset of cells to be used in clinic and compare these with innate adaptive immune cells.

 

 

Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • Cell-based assays designed to establish the potency of T cell and innate adaptive immune cell
  • Develop methods and execute routine testing to assess modified cellular therapeutic potency, stability and stimulation
  • Develop phenotypic methods to determine differentiation stages of T cells and other cell types such as gd cells, and other innate adaptive immune cells
  • Assess and test options, either at the cell engineering level or cell culture level, for maintaining T cells at various stages of differentiation.
  • Work with a cross-functional development team to advance development of autologous and allogeneic T cell (and innate adaptive immune cells) based therapies
  • Assess and establish biological assays needed for allogeneic cell therapy
  • Work closely with manufacturing group to devise an allogeneic cell based strategy beginning with the selection of donors
  • He/she is responsible for optimizing and standardizing the existing and new assays for transferring to the QC function 
  • Will design and lead cross-functional analytical development programs to drive the rapid advancement of cellular therapy candidates from pre-clinical through commercial manufacturing.
  • Provide a strategic direction for analytical method lifecycle management for cell therapy product developmentLead the selection, development and validation of analytical methods to assess cellular product identity, purity, safety, quality and potency. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • Strong technical expertise and quantitative skills in biochemical and cell-based assay development and screening to enable small molecule/target discovery, lead identification, and optimization.
  • A proven track record of managing junior staff as well as coordinating activities through CROs
  • Effective communicator of ideas, project goals and results to team members across cross-functional roles/departments.
  • PhD at least 6 years related pharmaceutical or biotechnology industrial experience with increasing scientific responsibilities in analytical development
  • Proven record of successfully developing and transferring cell-based bioassays
  • Strong technical writing and oral presentation skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and prioritize work from multiple projects within a flexible work schedule
